Your course content is delivered both in-person and online. You can choose how to participate based on your personal preference or life commitments. You can also alternate your delivery style on a day-by-day basis. Feel like going to class? Head to campus. Not so much? Stay home and attend class online.
A hybrid flexible (or HyFlex) course differs from a hybrid course in that you can choose how you want to participate. You may have the option to attend on campus, online or a combination of both, based on your preference.
As with a hybrid course, you can expect to see a variety of tools used. There may be a mix of synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (on your own time) online elements, too. For example, some pre-work may be expected to be completed online (such as watching a video or responding to a discussion post) before an in-person discussion or problem-review session.
It offers students significant flexibility and control over choosing how to participate and complete course requirements.
Students who choose the in-person option receive immediate feedback and engagement opportunities.
Students who choose the online option may have more flexibility in their schedule and can use audio-visual communication tools to engage with others.
A shift to fully online delivery would be less disruptive for participants who are already familiar with the online format and expectations.
Students have a variety of ways to participate and to learn and practice the material.
At this point in time, traditional In-Person courses, Hybrid and HyFlex courses look the same on the WVU course schedule.
Because these three formats provide some in-person, on-campus participation, they will show:
You can ask the program director or department chair about the specific course delivery format.
